Microbial Odyssey is an independent project dedicated to the documented history of microbiology. Every species record traces a real organism to a real scientist, date, and place - no invented microorganisms, no imaginary laboratories, no fabricated events. Where historical attribution is genuinely disputed, the archive says so rather than smoothing it over.
This is phase eight of the archive: 95 verified species, 55 scientists, 31 landmark discoveries, 40 historical locations, a period-organized timeline, and a 77-term glossary, spanning bacteria, archaea, fungi, protozoa, algae, and viruses. Every dataset and every interface label is now fully translated into French and Arabic, with RTL support throughout. Sections still to come include landmark experiments, historical laboratories, taxonomy history, outbreak archives, and a historical map. Each will be added in verified batches rather than all at once - accuracy over volume, per the project's own anti-hallucination rule.
This phase also added a global search (the icon in the header, or Ctrl/Cmd+K) that searches every species, scientist, discovery, location, and glossary term at once, plus a random-discovery shuffle for browsing the archive by chance, and an expedition log that tracks how much of the archive you've personally explored. Every real entry is reachable in two keystrokes.
Also new: a knowledge quiz and live data charts built entirely from the archive's own real records, a redesigned navigation with a horizontal expanding menu, and two 2026 additions verified this round: Deinococcus pantiae, a UV- and antibiotic-resistant bacterium described from Antarctic lake sediment, and pPro-MobV, a CRISPR gene-drive system from UC San Diego that actively reverses antibiotic resistance in bacterial populations.
This phase closed several gaps from the archive's original scope: an interactive map with real coordinates for all 40 locations, 12 landmark experiments structured by question, method, result, and significance, 6 real scientific controversies and 6 documented failed hypotheses presented without a good-versus-bad narrative, a comparison tool, citation export, faceted filtering, and 8 historical laboratories plus 10 tools that changed the field. What's still missing from the original request -- taxonomy history, outbreak archives, and the specialized antimicrobial/genetic/viral sub-timelines -- remains unbuilt for the same reason as always: producing thousands of individually verified facts isn't something this archive will fake to hit a number.
